Summer is over (for UK readers you may be wondering just when it began) and we’re rapidly moving into darker nights, flame inspired celebrations and the countdown to Christmas.

But ‘post Summer’ can be one of the most productive times of the year.

Let’s assume the summer has given you some oomph and now it’s time to light that blue touch paper and ignite.

But not today, let’s get settled in first.

When my wife Christine managed a finance team, and colleagues came back from holiday, she’d give them a colouring book and pencils and a little time to settle back into work. The idea of diving straight in could be too stressful so she’d bring her team gently back into a work routine.

She had an incredibly loyal workforce and some wonderful pictures for the fridge.

Christine’s method is not procrastination, it’s brain warming.

Procrastination is different. I know, I put the pro in procrastination. I’ll do anything but get started.

So rather than put things off, it’s time to warm up your grey matter ready to make the last third of 2016 the best part of 2016.

Here are 3 things to help you get started.

Set a six-month goal that you’ll achieve by the end of the year. No, I haven’t got my maths wrong. If you take massive action you know what you can do. 100+ days await!

Stimulate your thinking. Read or listen to one personal development book in the next week. I’ve been listening to some great audio books over the last few months, including ‘The willpower instinct’ by Kelly McGonigal and a return visit to ‘The Chimp Paradox’ by Prof Steve (I don’t care if I drop my H’s) Peters.

Do one thing that makes you extremely uncomfortable. Just one, but do it in the next 48 hours.

Here’s to the rest of 2016 the new term starts NOW!

Be Brilliant!
