Guess what? Today, Tuesday, 23rd of July at 7.15 am, I’ve celebrated a massive milestone.

I’m 500,000 hours old!

Yes, you read that right – half a million hours of life.

Doesn’t that sound incredible?

500,000 hours. That’s 30 million minutes. Over 1.8 billion seconds.

It’s a fun fact that happens about 2 weeks after you become 57.

We don’t usually think about time like this, but it’s a brilliant way to reflect on life.

Let’s break it down:

If you sleep 8 hours a day, that’s about 166,666 hours snoozing. That’s nearly 19 years asleep! Or for me 22 years 😴 I love my bed.

The average person works around 90,000 hours in their lifetime. That’s a lot of time spent building, creating, and contributing. For me, that feels like 150,000 hours 💪🏼 I love my work.

We spend roughly 32,000 hours eating. Yum! Easy 😋 Yep, love my food.

And over 10,000 hours laughing – smashed that 😂 Love to laugh!

6,000 hours of learning. Really? I could do that in a week – don’t love maths 🧮

4,000 hours travelling (without daily commutes) and I know I’ve smashed that, love to travel. 🧳 🚂

Every hour counts. Every moment matters.

This milestone isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about celebrating life.

Your life.

Our lives.

Each hour brings new experiences, challenges, and joys.

Take a moment to think about your hours.

What have you achieved?

What are you grateful for?

What’s next?

4 things to consider during this hour.

Seize the Moment: Make every hour count. Don’t wait for tomorrow.

Celebrate SWins (Small Wins): Each hour is a victory.

Stay Curious: Keep learning. Your brain loves it.

Love Fiercely: Spend time with those who matter.

Thank you for being part of my journey. Here’s to many more hours of joy, success and adventure.

For some reason I’m fixated on 18th November, :seven days after my 67th birthday. On that day, I’ll be older than my dad ever got to be. As it draws closer, I can’t help feeling that I might not make it. Irrational as I’m not unfit, not on any meds. I double check the roads when I cross. 😀

    Congratulations on this milestone.
You are the only other person I know to have celebrated this apart from me.
So I know you are just over 57.
    Enjoy the moment

    Congratulations!

(I’m just over 58. I missed my own 500,000 – off to google next significant hour milestone. Staying curious 😊)

You’ll do anything to steal my actual birthday!

I suppose next year you’ll be getting an MBE, or announcing that you’ve figured out cold fusion.

Have you really tried to love maths? If not why not try to – is it about overcome your fear of being ‘wrong’? Maths is a gateway subject that enables people to pursue their dreams but generally has a bad press in this country. I believe that we need to move to perceiving it as both useful and beautiful rather than feared and reviled! Maybe more awareness of conditions like dyscalculia may help so that people can understand why they struggle with manipulating numbers rather than them thinking that they are stupid/thick/can’t do maths… Needless to say your post would have been difficult to write without you ‘doing the math/s’.

      Hi Roger

It was an attempt at humour 🤣. I love maths. Anything with numbers, hence the post.

      Be Brilliant!

I couldn’t let this wonderous event pass without a poem…

Every hour counts, every moment is bright,
A milestone reached, a life in sight.
Not just numbers, but days so sweet,
A celebration, our hearts do beat.

Your life, our lives, together we stand,
Each hour brings forward a treasure, unplanned.
Experiences, challenges, joys anew, Moments cherished, with each view.

Reflect on the hours, what have you done?
Achievements gained, battles won. Gratitude blooms, like a morning flower,
For every gift, every small hour.

What comes next? What will you pursue?
Four things to consider, to hold true.
    Seize the moment, don’t delay,
    Make every hour count today.

Celebrate small wins, each hour a feat,
In victories tiny, find your seat.
Stay curious, keeping your mind engaged,
In learning, you’ll se life’s chapters are paged.

Love fiercely and deeply, with heart so pure,
Spend time with those who make you feel sure.
    Every hour, every heartbeat’s chime,
Cherish the moments, in life’s forward rhyme.
