I’ve become a semi-regular guest on ITV’s This Morning, presenting the ‘Confidence Clinic’.
It’s exciting. The opportunity to positively influence 700,000 people at a time is something I love.
The most common question I’m asked after being on the telly is, ‘Are you nervous?’
And I’d love to say yes, it’s terrifying! But the truth is it’s not scary. At least it’s not scary for me. For me it’s pure joy.
My default mode is wanting to help people. Now I’m getting paid to do what I love in front of loads of people.
Except it’s not loads of people.
Each time I appear, the producer gives me an important reminder.
You’re not talking to 700,000 people. You’re speaking to one.
When someone calls with a question, my job is to focus on them. Everyone else is just listening in.
And maybe that’s the trick. Focus on one.
When you’re not on the telly. Focus on one.
Instead of measuring success by ‘likes’. Focus on one.
Rather than winning the popular vote. Focus on one.
Rather than trying to get the whole team on side all the time. Focus on one.
If you do that, you’ll also be positively impacting everyone who’s watching.
And that audience is bigger than you think.
Be Brilliant!
Michael
