If No One Gives You A Medal

If No One Gives You A Medal

If no one gives you a medal… design your own.

Billy Connolly

I’m currently reading the Big Yin’s autobiography, Windswept and Interesting, and when he started a chapter with those words, I immediately thought this was sage advice. You can spend much time waiting for the recognition, permission, and credit you deserve, only to be disappointed when it doesn’t come.

How about creating your own daily medal?

I’ve long been a fan of a daily grateful list. Ending the day with five things to be grateful for. Now I’ve started to add, ‘one thing to be proud of’. It’s just for me. Not bragging rights. Just something that I can add in my journal that made me feel fulfilled.

Last weekend, I posted a video of some very proud people.

Writers.

Actually, writers who published. I’m not sure if there’s a prouder moment than the instant when you open the box and see your book. If you’ve seen it, you’ll know what I mean. If you haven’t watched it, you can watch it here and leave a comment below. I bet you £50 that you can’t watch it without smiling, crying, or probably both.
