Autumn has well and truly arrived here in the northern hemisphere.
Mornings are crisper.
Evenings are darker.
The leaves look fabulous – but they’re letting go.
Some people see this as the start of the long slide into winter.
I think it’s the perfect moment to pause and notice some of the little things that make life brighter.
I’ve been thinking about what really lifts spirits.
Not the big, once-in-a-lifetime moments, but the everyday sparks that make life lighter.
The things that don’t cost much (or anything) take little effort, but can change how a day feels.
Here’s 20 to get us started. What would you add?
- A favourite song playing unexpectedly.
- Finding money in an old coat pocket.
- The smell of toast.
- Clean sheets.
- A child’s laugh.
- Finishing a book.
- Starting a book.
- Remembering a brilliant holiday.
- Planning the next one.
- A handwritten note.
- Hearing a ‘thank you’ and meaning it.
- The first sniff of a fresh-brewed coffee.
- Being inside when it’s pouring outside (never take this for granted)
- A compliment you didn’t expect.
- Someone remembers your name.
- A long, sincere, hug.
- Seeing the sea.
- Watching your team win. Come on Newcastle!
- Laughing so hard you snort.
- Waking up and realising it’s the weekend.
What would you add the these reasons to be cheerful?
Be Brilliant!
Michael
