I messed up.
Last week I missed my Magic Monday.
How many people noticed?
Zero.
A couple of weeks ago, I sent this newsletter two hours late.
How many people commented?
None.
Do you know why?
Because no one cares.
Well, they don’t care about that stuff.
We spend too much time worrying that everyone is watching; that everyone is judging; that everyone will notice if we mess up, if we’re late, if we’re not perfect.
But the truth is: No One Cares.
Not in the way we think they do.
Here are a few things I could worry about (maybe you do too):
Rewriting the email one more time.
Editing a social post until it feels ‘just right’.
Checking camera angles, lighting and sound levels before hitting record.
Wondering whether someone will think I’m unprofessional if I’m just a minute late.
Keeping up appearances, keeping it sharp, polished, flawless.
We over-care. We elevate the small stuff.
We assume the world is watching - when in reality, most people are too busy watching themselves.
And if you flip it, that’s a good thing.
Because if no one cares that much, it gives you permission…
Permission to show up even when you’re not quite ‘ready’.
Permission to be slightly late.
Permission to be a little messy.
Permission to be you.
Perfection is an illusion. Presence is real.
Showing up imperfectly still beats waiting to be perfect and not showing up at all.
Your message, your voice, your human-ness is enough.
The number of people reading isn’t the point. The impact you make is.
I recently rewatched an interview I did with Patrick Kielty, where he reminded me (I’d forgotten) of something I taught him years ago – No one cares.
You can watch it below.
Here’s a challenge:
This week, let yourself off the hook
Do the thing, even if you’re not 100%.
Remove the ‘it has to be perfect’ filter.
Reach out, speak up, teach, help, do what YOU do.
Because guess what? No one cares.
And that’s brilliant.
See you (hopefully) on Monday.
Be Brilliant!
Michael
