How long ago was one million seconds?
Surprisingly it was just under 12 days.
That’s it. Not even a fortnight.
One million sounds huge, but in seconds, it’s barely the length of a British summer.
Now let’s scale up.
How long ago was one billion seconds?
That takes you back to 1993.
The World Wide Web was only three (and hardly anyone had heard of it).
The first Jurassic Park had just hit cinemas.
Mobile phones had massive aerials (but Snake was still a few years away).
Now prepare for your mind to be blown…
How long ago was one trillion seconds?
It was 29,000 BC! 🤯
We’re talking cave paintings and spears.
You could walk for years and never meet another human.
And written language (like this) would still be another 26,000 years!
We talk about time like we own it.
‘Give me a second.’ ‘This should be done by now.’ ‘I thought I’d be further on.’
But time doesn’t care what we expect. It moves at its own pace.
Meanwhile:
You overestimate what you can do in the short term.
You underestimate what you can achieve in the longer term.
This shows up with clients all the time.
They expect instant results.
Can give up too soon.
Assume if it’s not quick, it’s not working.
Time to Reflect
Are you rushing something that simply needs time?
Are you frustrated because progress isn’t fast enough, when it might actually be steady and solid?
Are you stuck in seconds thinking?
What If…
You gave yourself more time?
You trusted the process?
Today’s small step is actually right on schedule?
Be patient.
Be consistent.
Be Brilliant!
See you in 604,000 seconds.
Michael
