Ever said yes just to please?
To avoid an awkward moment.
To look good.
To keep the peace.
To not rock the boat (even when you’re the one bailing out water).
And then…
You’re left holding the bag.
Or the bill.
Or the weight of yet another commitment you didn’t want.
You’ve been trained (early on) that saying yes is polite. Helpful. Kind.
Even the Gurus enthuse, ‘Say yes!’
But saying yes too often, too quickly, or to the wrong things can cost you dearly.
🧠 Time. Energy. Money. Peace. Sanity.
(And that precious Saturday you were supposed to spend doing nothing.)
Think about your yeses:
- Which ones have served you?
- Which ones have stretched you?
- And which ones have slowly chipped away at the life you really want to live?
Because a yes to this is a no to that.
Your time isn’t elastic. Your energy isn’t infinite.
The bravest, boldest, most brilliant people I know aren’t afraid to say no.
Not rudely. Not carelessly.
But wisely. With intention.
Here’s your invitation:
💥 Say YES to things that light you up.
🚫 Say NO to things that drain you down.
💬 And if you need a magic phrase to buy you time, test this 17-word belter:
‘Thanks for asking. I’m unable to do that, but please let me know how you get on.’
Say yes to that.
Be Brilliant!
Michael
